FRACTIONAL CTO / TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP

Senior technology thinking.
Without a full-time CTO.

I work with established businesses that need someone to take ownership of the bigger technology picture, while still being willing to get underneath the systems, data and operational problems that make it complicated.

01

You may not need another piece of software. You may need someone who can see how the technology, information and operations fit together, decide what is actually worth changing and take responsibility for moving it forward.

WHEN IT FITS

02 / THE GAP

The business has outgrown
ad-hoc technology decisions.

01

Nobody owns the whole picture

Different systems, suppliers and teams each own a piece, but nobody is responsible for how the whole technology environment supports the business.

02

Technology has become reactive

Software is added when problems appear, integrations are built around immediate needs and the underlying complexity keeps increasing.

03

A full-time CTO isn’t justified

You need senior technology ownership and judgement, but not necessarily another full-time executive role.

WHAT I DO

03 / OWNERSHIP

Direction at the top.
Detail when it matters.

Technology direction

Turn business priorities into a practical technology roadmap and decide what to keep, change, remove, connect or build.

Systems & architecture

Understand how systems, data and workflows should fit together rather than treating each platform as an isolated decision.

Data, automation & AI

Identify where connected data, automation and AI can create genuine operational value, then prioritise the opportunities worth pursuing.

Delivery & suppliers

Give developers, agencies and software suppliers clear business-side direction, challenge assumptions and keep delivery tied to the outcome it was meant to achieve.

HOW I WORK

04 / PRACTICAL

Not a CTO who stays
at PowerPoint level.

Strategy matters, but only if it survives contact with how the business actually works.

I am comfortable moving from a leadership discussion about priorities into the detail of a workflow, dataset, integration or system when that is what is needed to understand the problem properly.

I can help define and oversee implementation, work with your existing people and suppliers, or bring in specialist implementation capability where appropriate. The goal is not for me to build everything. It is to make sure the right things get solved in the right order.

EXPERIENCE

05 / OPERATOR

I’ve made technology decisions
from inside the business.

14 YEARS

Running a multi-channel e-commerce business and working directly with the systems behind it.

My background includes Shopify Plus, Amazon, eBay, Etsy, wholesale, business systems, integrations, data, reporting and automation.

That experience is useful beyond e-commerce because the underlying problems are familiar across established businesses: disconnected systems, manual hand-offs, fragmented information, software sprawl and technology decisions made without a clear view of the whole operation.

Based in Moray, Scotland. Working with businesses internationally.

THE RELATIONSHIP

06 / FLEXIBLE

Enough involvement to own it.
Not another full-time executive.

A Fractional CTO relationship should fit the needs of the business rather than force the business into a fixed template.

The starting point is understanding what needs ownership, how much involvement is useful and what outcome you need from the relationship. For some businesses that will centre on a technology roadmap and leadership support. For others it will involve much deeper work across systems, data, suppliers and operational change.

If the need is better suited to a defined piece of work rather than an ongoing relationship, I can structure it as a project or Systems & Process Audit instead.

START A CONVERSATION

07 / NEXT STEP

Need someone to own
the technology picture?

You don’t need to arrive with a technology roadmap or even know exactly what needs changing.

Tell me what is getting in the way, where the business is heading and what you need technology to make possible. We can work out whether Fractional CTO support, an audit or a defined project is the right place to start.
